ENjoy Your Summer

6/26/2016

I would like to wish all of our Room 5 Families a wonderful summer.  The end of year is very bittersweet for teachers.  We enjoy the warm months, relaxing with our families as much as the children do, but it is sad to say good-bye to the girls and boys in class.  We have built a nice class community this year.  Best wishes to the families who are leaving this year.  Thank you for your kindness and friendship this year.  Many thanks to Shelley Chhabra for her work as room parent.  I appreciate all your time and effort.
If you have not already, please take a look at your child's poetry and journal writing.  These are very enjoyable to read.  The children are encouraged to continue to use the extra pages.
And...one final "plug" for reading each day over the summer....please assist your child in finding some time each day to relax with a great book.  This will do wonders for your child's academics and imagination!  Feel free to add comments onto this blog post with favorite books your child is reading!
Wishing you all a relaxing and adventurous summer!

We had a great visit with author/illustrator Brian Lies. He showed us his work from when he was in second grade! We saw his MANY drafts of books he has worked on. Brian talked about the importance of "practice makes better". He also told us how important it is for writers to add descriptive details. We all loved seeing his art work! Many thanks to the Stratton PTO for making this event possible!

Take a look at the website from one of my favorite bookstores "An Unlikely Story".  The store and cafe in Plainville, MA is owned by "Diary of a Wimpy Kid author/illustrator, Jeff Kinney.   Even if you are not able to take a visit to the store, the website includes some cool information about fun books for kids.  Enjoy!

Many thanks to Aaron Saunders for the presentation on robotics. Aaron presented a very cool slide show with video clips of the amazing robots at Boston Robotics. Then each child was able to use the remote to control a robot! We all learned so much from this presentation!
