![]() The children in Room 4 have really been showing their Stratton PRIDE and we have been congratulating them on doing so well each day. As part of our behavior system in class, the children can work toward receiving small prizes. We have been collecting small toys throughout the summer and we are happy to say that many have been given out already! We would love help in keeping our treasure box/prize box full and fun throughout the year. If you are able to donate small items during the year, we would greatly appreciate it. (Small goody bag items, little cars, fun erasers are enjoyed by the children.) Thanks for your support! Today our class met with our new third grade buddies in Mrs. Lees' class. We played a game called Guess My Rule. The children sorted buttons based on attributes (size, color, texture, number of holes). We will continue to meet with our third grade buddies throughout the year to complete projects and to share our fine work. This will be a valuable experience for all the children! Last week in math we did a survey with the class asking the children if they would rather be an eagle or a whale. After we concluded the survey, each child made a representation of the results. We were impressed with the many strategies the students used to show the data; some children made a graph using tally marks, others used ten-frames to show the data, and others made drawings of the animals to represent votes. Let's try a wider audience now. Go ahead and vote and we will share the results with the class! It was great seeing many parents this evening during our curriculum night. We hope you enjoyed hearing about all that will be happening this year! Today we enjoyed the story "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes. This is such a fun story! Tomorrow we will read Mrs. Barth's favorite Kevin Henkes' book! Can you guess which one it is? Today we read "Fall" by Ann Herriges. The children then designed "stained-glass" leaves. Room 4 is ready for the beautiful season of fall! ![]() Mark your calendars: Stratton's Curriculum Night will be on Thursday, September 19th from 6:00-6:45 (Grades K-2) Please join us in our classroom (Room 4) for information about grade 1! If you are unable to attend this event, please let us know and we are happy to either meet with you another day or send along the Power Point presentation and other materials. We had a great first day of school! We all enjoyed getting to know eachother! The children designed paper figures to depict how they look today. We can't wait to see you tomorrow! Your child may enjoy attending the monthly Home Depot workshops. During each session, the children create cool toys to bring home (they also practice their following directions skills and fine motor skills). On Saturday, you can make a football ring toss. We have included a link for registration to the Home Depot in Waltham. Once you are on their page, look for the tab on the right for the "Kids' Workshops". See Mrs. Barth for more details.
