Playing with our Friends

“Playing with Friends” Description
Countries and lives are different wherever you are...but friendship is universal.  In our project-based learning module we are excited to explore the common language of friendship through a collaboration here at Stratton, and across the globe in a partnership with a small, rural school in Kenya.  Our team will be working with students in Laura Forse’s 1st grade class and Julie Barth’s 2nd grade class, in collaboration with Jen Breneisen, our SLC Social Worker.  As a part of both our 1st grade study of Africa and our 2nd grade study of the continents we will be playing games and learning things friends do with one another, both here in Arlington and in Kenya, as well as increasing our understanding of what friendship is.  We will be sharing games we play and things we enjoy doing together, and learning from our friends in Kenya about the same things.   We will be reading non-fiction books about Kenya, learning about some Kenyan folk tales, and sharing some facts about our lives here with our partner school in Kenya.  We will be making a book about friendship and the games we play together, and collecting materials to send to Kenya so we can share our games with our new friends.  We look forward to sharing our learning with the Stratton community later this year!
