First/Third Grade Buddies
Our first grade class has partnered with Mrs. Lees' third grade class as reading/writing/math buddies. Both grades have found this experience to be rewarding. Not only do the children read to each other, but our class will often share our writing pieces, projects and play math games. Our first graders are able to practice their reading fluency and math thinking and our older friends are sharing higher level book choices with us. In addition to this, the third graders have a chance to be role models for the first grade children.
We wanted to inform you about an amazing optional service project that is upcoming!
Our class along with Mrs. Lees' class are invited to help support the Arlington Giving Tree of buying presents for Arlington children in need around the holidays. If you choose to participate, we ask that your child collects change from friends/family members to donate to our collection. (The children will be provided small containers for the money collection during the week of November 18th-22nd.) Please return the money to class by December 2nd. We will pool this money together to buy presents.
On Saturday, December 7th, your family is invited to meet at the Target in Woburn at 12:00 to go shopping for presents. (You will be paired up into groups with children from our class and Mrs. Lees' class. Each group will be given some of the money that was collected to purchase gifts.) After shopping, you are then invited to join other families to have lunch together at the Papa Gino's at the Woburn Mall. A percentage of the sales from Papa Gino's will go back to Stratton School!
During the following week, the children will wrap the presents and we will hand off our gifts to Stratton parent and coordinator Lori Talanian.
A note will be going home shortly for you to let us know if you are able to join this event.
If a parent is able to collect 21 deli containers with covers, please let us know. Thank you!!!
There are several other classes supporting this project and each year this project is growing at Stratton!
Please let us know if you have any questions or ideas!
Thanks!
