Stratton PRIDE; PRIDE in our students, PRIDE in our school, PRIDE in our community
Stratton PRIDE is a community-building and independence-promoting enrichment program. Through presentations and activities, the Stratton PRIDE program fosters:
PERSEVERANCE
RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY
INDEPENDENCE
DEDICATION
EMPOWERMENT
The main goals of the PRIDE Program are:
· To create a common language across grade levels
· To provide a discussion forum for relevant issues
· To create a classroom and school community of respect and inclusion
· To learn problem-solving skills to apply inside and outside of the classroom
· To use Open Circle language
Each Monday, the whole school gathers for a PRIDE assembly. At each assembly we will discuss topics such as respect for oneself and others, the importance of trying one’s best, and other issues that strengthen the sense of community and individual responsibility. The presentations build on the Open Circle curriculum that is part of the Arlington Public School’s social curriculum and Stratton’s positive, empowering language. To learn more about Open Circle, read updates from your child’s teacher and visit the website: http://www.open-circle.org/resources/MA_Curriculum_Framework.html
Students are encouraged to wear their grade’s assigned PRIDE color on assembly days. When the students sit together for assemblies they can readily see their grades and others, and the rainbow the school makes together.

History of PRIDE:
What is it?
Stratton PRIDE represents our school spirit! The initiative aims to develop the potential of the Stratton community as a whole, through education, modeling, practice and recognition.
When did it begin?
In the spring of 2006, a group of Stratton teachers formed a working group to develop a School Improvement Plan that focused on “school culture” for the upcoming school years. The group sought to unify the school and instill a sense of “pride” in the student body, staff and community. The group identified five positive character traits or attributes that correspond to each letter of “pride”.
In 2007, the vision became a reality with the help of the Stratton Faculty, PTO Enrichment Committee and a generous grant from the Arlington Educational Enrichment Fund (AEEF) to kick off…Stratton PRIDE! This model now represents the essence of Stratton School. Evidence of this school spirit can be found in each classroom, in the cafeteria and throughout the Stratton community. Since 2009, the entire school has participated in a school-wide assembly offering each grade a chance to share what Stratton PRIDE means to them.
